Northwestern Agusan Colleges (NAC), originally established as Nasipit Institute (NI) in 1967, has a rich history that reflects its commitment to education in the region. Initially, the institution focused on secondary education, welcoming only first and second-year students. By 1968, NAC expanded its offerings to include a complete secondary curriculum, culminating in the graduation of its inaugural class, Batch 1969.Nestled in the scenic Bay View Hill of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, NAC was founded by influential local families, including the Noriega, Dompor, Rotor, and Tupaz clans. Their vision was clear: to create a high-quality educational institution accessible to the community. Responding to a growing demand from high school graduates eager to pursue college degrees, the board of trustees established a college department in 1975. This expansion introduced programs such as Junior Secretarial, Bachelor of Arts with a major in English, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The evolution of NAC continued in 1988 when it introduced new courses like Bachelor in Elementary Education and Bachelor in Secondary Education with a focus on English. That same year marked the construction of an annex building on Curato Street, which housed the college department. In 1990, under the leadership of Mrs. Pelegrina D. Leonardo, the school director at the time, NAC launched an Elementary Department designed to serve as a practical training ground for aspiring educators enrolled in the Bachelor of Elementary Education program. Initially held at the annex building, classes were later moved to a newly constructed facility at the main campus due to increasing enrollment numbers. This strategic move allowed all departments to consolidate into one location. Today, NAC offers three distinct strands for its junior and senior high school students: Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM); Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); General Academic Strand (GAS); and Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strand. The high school is overseen by a single principal and supported by a dedicated team of fifteen teachers, eleven of whom are licensed professionals. As NAC continues to grow, it remains steadfast in its mission to cultivate community leaders through quality education and unwavering integrity.
