A Brief Overview
Northwestern Agusan Colleges (NAC) stands as a dedicated educational institution committed to providing quality education and developing community leaders in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte. With a history spanning over five decades, the college has evolved from a modest secondary school to a comprehensive educational institution offering various academic programs across multiple levels.
Our History
Northwestern Agusan Colleges, formerly known as Nasipit Institute (NI), was founded and established in 1967. The institution initially offered secondary education, admitting only first and second-year students. By 1968, it expanded to provide a complete secondary course, with the first batch of graduates completing their education in the 1968-1969 academic year.
The institution was established by prominent families in Nasipit who formed the board of trustees and became stockholders of what would eventually become NAC. These founding families included the Noriega, Dompor, Rotor, and Tupaz families, who envisioned creating a quality educational institution for the community.
Expansion to Higher Education
With an increasing number of high school graduates from Nasipit seeking to complete their college degrees in an accessible yet high-quality institution, the stockholders decided to establish a college department in 1975. The initial tertiary programs offered included Junior Secretarial, Bachelor of Arts major in English, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
The institution continued to grow, and in 1988, it expanded its academic offerings to include Bachelor in Elementary Education. During this time, the college department was housed in an annex building located at Curato Street, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
Comprehensive Educational Programs
In the same year (1988), Mrs. Pelegrina D. Pelegrino, who was then the school director, made the strategic decision to open an Elementary Department to complement the Secondary and Collegiate courses already offered by NAC. Initially, the elementary classes were conducted at the annex building, but due to increasing enrollment, the administration constructed a new building at the main campus.
Eventually, the administration decided to consolidate all departments at a single location, closing the annex building and bringing all educational levels together at the main campus at Bay View Hill.
